Llamas and Packs and SPRING!

It is so fun to talk to other llama owners around the world. Packing with llamas has been very popular in parts of the United Kingdom for a number of years. Since the climate here on Larch Mt. is so like that of the Scottish and English countrysides, we like the idea of using our herd for camping/hiking. Just outside the back of our yard, lies 15,000 acres of state owned land--much of which was logged 6 years ago (very ugly). HOWEVER! The changes coming to the area are vast and lovely. There are new trees coming up all over, and wildflowers aplenty. The hiking is pretty easy, for most, and streams flow about 2 miles up. A nice change from the city...
You can hike or mountain bike as far as 22 miles to the 'main road' or as little as 2.5 miles to spread a nice picnic lunch and enjoy the sights.

COMING SOON!
Guest Quarters at Glory Ridge Farm!
We have separate guest quarters for a family of 4, with a private master bedroom, full bath and efficiency kitchen. These should be available by Mid-Summer of 2009. An addition of an exterior entrance and private deck is also upcoming for late in 2009.

Time for early Spring cleanup!

Well, the snow from earlier in the year has done a number on our trees and fields. BLLAH! This week was spent burning and cleaning out what we could. Very satisfying to see the piles of dead wood go from 8ft. to ashes!
Of course the 'kids' (the llamas) want ALL the pine branches they can get! YUMMY!

Sunshine today has made the llamas goofy. They are so funny with one another. I keep trying to get a photo of Glory Maye and Ameila (our barn cat) snuggling. They are so funny, sometimes I think Amelia may just climb on Glory's back for a ride... someday I will be fast enough to catch them!
Still patches of snow on the drive in, and morning's are frozen. New photos to come soon...

Have you kissed your llama today?

Whoohoo! We have had an abundance of SNOW here at Glory Ridge Farm, and the llamas are, let's just say, a bit weary of it! Ice, snow then 3 inches of rain (in a 32 hr. period!) have had them tied to their stalls for several weeks now.

Of course, as in all cases, with new 'parents' the snow is an opportunity for A PHOTO SHOOT!!! So here, are a couple of shots of the critters at their bestests!

Big Snow of 2008!

Whew! We still have bits of snow around after the biggest snow fall in history! Over 15 inches fell from our barn and crushed the duck pen (but all ducks are doing fine!). We have been so lucky though, and are happy to be thawing out.

It is always fun to be followed by a llama!

A neighbor just came by and brought some veggies from her wonderful garden...and she had her dog with her. Our llamas are not afraid of dogs, since we have three for them to choose from at any given moment! Well, those llamas were so puzzled by this new family member...they all stood at attention and followed this old dog's every move. She went right, they watched right. She went left, they watched left. Like a tennis match. It was fun.

Baby Glory is so gentle with little Ghianna (our one year old granddaughter). She snuggles her. Ghianna is 1, and Glory Maye turned 4 months yesterday. What fun!
